In today's world the Cadaver Dog is known by many names such as Human Remains Detector Dog (HRD), Evidence dog, Decomposition K9, Necro Dogs, Grave Detection Dog, Victim Recovery Dog (VR), Drowned Victim Dog, Forensics K9 or Historical Human Recovery Dog (HHRD). All these terms really mean the same thing.

9. Training. Dogs must be trained as trailing dogs and air-scenting dogs. Trailing dogs follow a scent that has fallen on the ground. These dogs can pick out a human, or in the case of Cadaver dogs, a decomposing human's scent that was carried on a breeze, or "fallen" from a person carrying a body to its location.
